Mongolian Lunar New Year

The Department of Central Eurasian Studies (CEUS), along with the Mongolia Society and the Mongolian community and students in Bloomington, has celebrated Tsagaan sar (White Moon), the Mongolian Lunar New Year, as per tradition this past week. Former US Ambassador to Mongolia and incoming President of the Mongolia Society Michael Klecheski, and the Chair of IU CEUS Öner Özçelik made the opening remarks. Students and participants read Mongolian poems in Mongolian and English, sang Mongolian songs, played Mongolian horse head fiddle and zitter, danced, played Mongolian games, learnt Mongolian dance, organized a fashion show, and ate delicious Mongolian food. Prof. Tserenchunt Legden, CEUS Senior Lecturer for Mongolian, along with her students, the Mongolian Students Association, and Susie Drost of the Mongolia Society, have put together a wonderful program full of fun and learning opportunities.
