The Department of Central Eurasian Studies offers online language classes to non-IU students in the following languages:
- Estonian
- Finnish
- Hungarian
- Kurdish

- Persian
- Tibetan
- Turkish
- Uyghur
- Uzbek
A placement exam will be given for those enrolling in intermediate or advanced levels. Auditing language classes is not permitted.
Semester calendar
Our online courses follow the IUB semester schedule. Classes could be fully synchronous or a combination of synchronous and asynchronous. None of our language classes are 100% asynchronous. Synchronous classes meet via zoom on specific days and time along with IU students in a classroom.
Course fee information
New, lower tuition rates are now in effect for non-degree students who want to take only online foreign language courses. You are not eligible for the lower rate if you are an IU student or you are taking a non-language class(es) in addition to the online language class.
Our undergraduate language courses are 4 credit hours and our graduate language courses 3 credits per semester. The in-state and out-of-state fees for both undergraduate and graduates are listed here. Be sure to change to the correct semester and year. An additional distance education fee of $30 per credit hour (as of fall 2020) will be added to the tuition cost.
