Research Interests
National identity and language in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. History, literature, and politics in Central Asia. Russian Empire and Soviet history. Ottoman Empire and the Middle East. Intellectual history and ties between Central Asia, Russia/Soviet Union and the Ottoman Empire/Turkey during the 19th and 20th centuries. International relations and comparative history. Development of conceptions of identity, individual and collective over time.
